Luxury Modern Kitchen Renovation with Custom Black Kitchen Cabinetry

This modern black kitchen renovation in Washington, DC is located in the Kent / Palisades neighborhood and features custom black kitchen cabinets paired with natural wood and stone elements. The homeowners partnered with USA Cabinet Store after successfully completing previous multi-unit renovation projects together.

The goal was to design a timeless modern kitchen that combines bold aesthetics with everyday functionality.

Design Concept

The kitchen was designed with a modern, minimalist approach, inspired by California-style calm and subtle Japanese influences. Clean lines, balance, and natural materials were key—allowing black cabinetry to anchor the space without feeling heavy.

Black Kitchen Cabinets & Materials

The kitchen features:

  • Matte black slab kitchen cabinets with flat-front design

  • A solid walnut waterfall island for warmth and contrast

  • Soapstone countertops and a custom soapstone sink for durability and texture

Cabinetry was selected from Showplace Cabinetry (EVO line), a Made-in-USA brand known for quality and design flexibility.

Functional Kitchen Planning

Functionality played a critical role in the final layout. Maintaining the island size allowed for:

  • Integrated pull-out trash and recycling

  • Improved storage and workflow

  • A kitchen designed for daily use, not just visual impact

Final Result

This project demonstrates how black kitchen cabinets can create a bold yet timeless space when paired with wood and stone. The result is a luxury modern kitchen that is functional, balanced, and built to last.
